Tone on Tone Scarf

This is only my 4th project on a rigid heddle and I bought it because it said "beginner". I love the pattern and the colors but I'm finding the linen very difficult to work with - it stretches too easily for a beginner and I am struggling with it. Wish I would have been warned about the yarn or given alternatives.

I've woven with both fibers and was intrigued by the possibility of the combination of Mallo and Duet, but unlike other reviewers, I found the Mallo cotton slub to be too stiff for the kind of drape I like in a scarf; especially a scarf this wide, which you would want to double around your neck. It's definitely wide enough to be a shawl and the simple block pattern is graphically quite lovely. But if softness and nice drape are what you're looking for in a scarf, you might want to reconsider using these two fibers.

This very simple pattern works up into a beautiful shawl, and really shows off the lovely characteristics of the yarn. I can fold it up and stash in my bag so I can pull it out in chilly restaurants or on cool evenings. An added bonus is it is machine washable (cold, delicate cycle) and I can throw it in the dryer on low. I used Beam in Spice, and Duet in Rust.

Had worked with Mallo and Duet in separate projects with success. Was curious how they would be together. They worked up beautifully in the scarf. I had a bit of pink left from a previous project so added that for a little interest. The dark grey Duet did not shrink as much as the Mallo after wet finishing so left some subtle texture, but the dark grey twisted fringe is just slightly longer than the light grey Mallo fringe.
