Rigid Heddle Ribbon Scarf

This rustic cotton and linen scarf is woven in Plain Weave with a crammed threading sequence that groups warp ends together in each colorful stripe. The contrast of thick and thin adds dimension to the design and brings out the natural drape of the yarn. For a playful finishing touch, each fringe bundle is tied with decorative overhand knots. I loved this project. I used the sero silk noil on the advice of another commenter, as (a beginner) I had difficulty with Duet on a previous project. Sero was so easy to work with! After advice from Gist on sleying, it was a breeze. The two accent colors (seaglass and natural) are very close so if I had it to do over again, I'd pick higher contrast.

This scarf was fun to make! Although I had never warped anything quite like the warp in this pattern, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. Kristine was, as always, quick to respond with expert tips. I used three accent colors instead of two, as the pattern requires. This scarf has style and will be fun to wear.

I chose to direct warp this pattern following "Tip for Direct Warping" on page 5. When I went to sley it does not follow the pattern. It would have been nice to have some kind of note about this to avoid the waste of yarn and time it is going to take me to rewarp. The indirect warping chart shows this but I didn't even pay attention until I was ready to sley. All will be fine but I am a bit frustrated.

Love this pattern and the Sero Silk Noil fiber - it's soft but not in the way you think of a manufactured silk garment. It drapes beautifully but has a more earthy feel, while still being super soft. The most challenging part of this was in the threading and once you start it, you see the threading pattern emerge and it's actually quite simple. I used Natural, Glacier and Gloam. Thank you, Gist - you've done it again!
