Log Cabin Interrupted Scarf

 Designed by Charles Davis

Designed with enough symmetry to keep the pattern balanced, Log Cabin takes on a very modern feel when interrupted with solid blocks of contemporary, earthy tones in both warp and weft. Woven with soft and drapey Silk Noil, this generously wide scarf is sure to become a fall wardrobe staple.

Pattern download includes files for both rigid heddle and shaft loom weaving. Yardage requirements and dimensions vary based upon loom and waste. Order a kit.

Note: this pattern instructs a very light beat. The kit contains enough yarn to weave it with a balanced beat. See Tips or Variations for modifications.

A beautiful and forgiving pattern

Oh how I love this scarf! Sero is stunning, soft and light. This RHL pattern was a bit more advanced than I was ready for—it is listed as intermediate, which is accurate! I didn't get the warping sequence right and ended up with a wider scarf than expected. But! The "interrupted' nature of the pattern and the yarn itself are both very forgiving! Sero is lovely to weave with: It ties on wonderfully and my slot tension stayed good throughout. I managed the 8ppi for the most part, too. I deducted a star because I only needed one cone of my darker color. I didn't even crack open the second (my scarf is both wider and longer than is should be, too). It would have been nice to save on that expense, but I also won't mind using it for another project. Overall, I'm thrilled with the result, I learned a lot and I have a new favorite yarn!

Looks complex but easy to weave

Log cabin is tough to design but easy to weave, and this pattern is a joy. First time using Sero, too, and loved the texture of the thick, matte silk. Blue yarn bled a lot in wet finishing, but end product looks great. Can't wait to make this one again...and will count more accurately while warping next time.
