Halvdräll Towels
Designed by Arianna E. Funk, adapted for Beam and woven by Christine Jablonski
The Halvdräll Towels are one of our earliest and most-loved patterns, first published in 2019. We have since adapted the original project to be woven with a combination of Beam 8/2 Organic Cotton and Duet Cotton/Linen. This trio of towels features a striped warp and a variety of weft color block patterns woven in a simplified Overshot technique known as Halvdräll. Order a kit.

- 88-135 heddles per shaft
- 10 or 15-dent reed

Warp: Beam 8/2 Organic Cotton, 935 yds Natural, 485 yds Dawn.Weft: Beam 8/2 Organic Cotton, 335 yds Natural, 335 yds Dawn; Duet Cotton/Linen, 565 yds Storm.

It shouldn't be necessary to find other peoples instagram or YouTube to understand the pattern.
The pattern shown on YouTube had an additional column on the right side showing the colors of every pick. This is not part of the PDF I purchased and I wouldn't have realized it, if I hadn't stumbled across that.

I had a challenge warping with this pattern. I think the 25 epi with a semi-sticky thread and 3/2 per dent, made it difficult, though I admit that I am still a beginner! Once I finished getting the loom warped it was a nice pattern and I enjoyed the look of it. I would add a floating selvage if I do the pattern again. The floats along the selvage were too messy for me.

I think these are fabulous towels. These particular colors and square blocks are so well balanced. The color values are perfect. And in terms of function, the weave structure and resulting texture make very absorbent towels.

Pattern was pretty easy to read. Nice sized towels. I was able to weave them fairly quickly.

i have woven this pattern twice , using two different colorways. The pattern instructions are very clear. The draft is also large enough to be easy to read!
