Zig Zag Twill Scarf
Designed by Christine Tsai
This warm and cozy scarf is woven on a rosepath (extended point twill) threading with two alternating stripes of color in the warp. Variations of 2/2 twill and plain weave in the treadling create a striking elongated zig zag pattern and slightly longer warp floats which enhance the softness of the alpaca yarn. Order a kit.
Enjoyed this project. I used colors that were similar in value (green/brown/gold) so the pattern was not as obvious. Next time I’ll use higher contrast yarn.
Just finished making this scarf for my bf. The yarn is SO soft. I follows the instructions to hang wash and dry flat but it just didn’t full like I felt it should. When almost dry I put it in the dryer with a big fluffy (dry) towel on low. In three minutes it was perfect! Can’t wait to gift this gift for his birthday this weekend!
I ordered this pattern along with the recommended Alpaca colors, and very pleased. The yarn was very easy to work with. The pattern instructions were clear. I had a few questions & they were answered quickly.
I made several scarves for Christmas- in Bamboo, Tencel, and Alpaca Silk. All wove wonderfully, and the drape is lovely. Perfect present!! This will be my to go to scarf draft! Thank you.
I ordered the draft and alpaca (Ode) yarn for this scarf and I couldn't be more pleased. The alpaca yarn weaves beautifully. I had enough yarn for two scarves- one for my husband and another for someone to receive as a gift if I can ever part from it. I was so inspired by the simple draft with the color combination, I read the designer's (Christine Tsai) notes and ordered the book (Designing Woven Fabrics by Janet Phillips) which was the source of Christine's inspiration.
