Sero Mystery Box

A sale offer tempted me to buy this mystery box, and I’m glad I yielded. I got Amber, Sandstone and Farro. The first two clearly go together, but if I had chosen for myself, I don’t think I would have thought to add the vaguely pink Farro to them. I made a simple rectangular shawl using a very basic color-and-weave pattern, and I’m delighted with the results.

I used a 12.5-dent heddle. The finished fabric is very drapey and open (15.3 epi and 15.6 ppi). When I use the leftover yarn, I will try a 15-dent heddle, just out of curiousity.

It’s a beautiful yarn, not shiny, but with real depth of color. I found it very easy to handle. It doesn’t stick to itself as some silk does, which makes weaving so much pleasanter. It did, however, defeat my efforts to make a twisted fringe! The bundles kept untwisting close to the fabric. I ended up hemming the ends.

The mystery boxes are fun. Never know what colors will be added to my stash.

This a fun way to get introduced to silk - a little bargain and a little anticipation. The bright colors I received (which I probably wouldn’t have put together) work very well together! I am looking forward to weaving them into something very special.

I really dithered about this... what if I hated the colors? Well, they were NOT colors I would have chosen, but they are just amazing and work well together, better than I ever would have imagined. I will have fun getting to know this new to me yarn.
