Episode 1: Off-Loom Roving Weaving with Meghan Shimek

Meghan Bogden Shimek is a weaver, fiber artist, and tarot reader living and working in Oakland, California. She creates stunning large-scale wall hangings and sculptural objects from wool roving. Meghan’s work has been exhibited throughout the US and internationally.

Meghan is also a teacher, which is where I met her! I was lucky to get to learn from Meghan at the Weaving Kind Makerie retreat last October in Colorado. As someone who primarily weaves with thin yarn on a floor loom, it was refreshing to learn at a completely different scale using her techniques of off-loom weaving with roving. I was also inspired by the stories Meghan shared about how she found her way to weaving and how she’s making her way in the world as an artist.

I have just finished listening to the four podcasts and wished for more. It is fascinating, encouraging and enlightening to listen to these weavers. Perhaps, especially so for me as I am relatively new to the craft.
Thank you so much for producing these! I look forward to more in the future.
