We are thrilled to be launching PlayBox #3 today. The Rigid Heddle Weaver’s Playbox is our collaboration with Liz Gipson of Yarnworker and is a box filled with yarn from North American mills and dye houses paired with a PDF that will help you expand your rigid heddle weaving skills. PlayBoxes are suitable for weavers who already have at least a few projects under their belt - we recommend starting with our Textured Cotton Scarf and Citrus Towels.
Please note that all PlayBoxes are pre-order, as the small North American mills we work with will be making this yarn just for you. Your box will ship in July 2020.

Bring a little luxe to your summer weaving with the new Fine Blends PlayBox. Blends are a great way to add a touch of luxury to your weaving and create a yarn that is better than a sum of its parts. Included are three generously-sized skeins sourced from two North American yarn makers and a dyer who craft exceptional yarns. Each yarn contains a generous amount of fine Merino wool with additional fibers such as Alpaca, silk, and Tencel to increase its strength, sheen, and wear, and create a more durable yarn for weavers to start experimenting with the superfine side of weaving.
Included in the box is a pattern that explores a nifty cramming technique to create texture and colorwork with fingering and ultra lace yarns to make light-as-air fabrics. The generous yardage of each 3.5 oz skein will allow you tomake three scarves, one is an infinitely versatile “skinny scarf”; a scarf and a stole; or a shawl—all generous in length for wrapping up on chilly summer night or air-conditioned spaces. Narrower widths can be seamed together using an open lacy stitch to create wider fabrics. Four colorways are available.
This box is appropriate for the advanced beginner who is ready to tackle wider fabrics. We assume you have woven a couple of projects, feel comfortable with basic weaving vocabulary, and are ready for a challenge.
The projects require a rigid heddle loom with at least 10" of weaving width, a 12 or 12.5 dent heddle and a stick shuttle or boat shuttle. The pattern is easily adaptable to wider fabrics.

Nope! You can do PlayBox #3 even if you didn't complete the first 2 boxes.
When will PlayBox #3 ship?

Is this a subscription box? Or just one box?
This is Box #3 in a series of boxes - each box focuses on a different type of project and material. You don't subscribe - you can choose which box or boxes you'd like when they are released. Please note that Weaver's PlayBox #1 and #2 are not available at this time, but will be again in the future!
It sold out before I got a chance to purchase! Why? When can I get a box?
We are working with small US mills and supplies are very limited. But we don't want any sad weavers out there! We will release the PlayBoxes again - you can sign up to be notified when they are back in stock. Email hello@gistyarn.com with any questions.
How much does it cost to ship in the US?
Shipping is usually $12-15 in the US (exact amount depending on location - we ship from Pennsylvania). We also offer free US shipping on all orders over $135, so if you want to add a bit more yarn or other weaving supplies to your box, you can qualify yourself for free shipping.
Do you ship internationally?
We will happily ship it to you internationally - we ship everywhere! Please note that international customers are responsible for all taxes and duties. Shipping cost varies by destination - you can find your cost by adding the box to your cart and starting the checkout process.

I'm brand new to rigid heddle weaving - should I get the Weaver's PlayBox?
We recommend you weave at least 1 or 2 projects to get the feel of your loom before trying the Weaver's PlayBox. We recommend the Textured Cotton Scarf or the Citrus Towels. Since you will have about a month until the PlayBox is delivered, you can definitely go ahead and order it now - just make sure you try some other projects before diving into your PlayBox.
Do you offer the box in different colors?
Yep! By popular demand, we are offering the PlayBox in four different colorways right off the bat.
