Silk Noil Infinity Cowl Kit ~ Orchid
$ 48.00 USD
The Silk Noil Infinity Cowl by Lois Weaver is woven with our Italian Silk Noil on a rigid heddle loom. The spaced weft complements the soft, rustic texture of the silk noil and acts as a simple solution for button holes. Each edge is finished with buttons* so that the cowl can be worn in variety of ways.
*Buttons are not included with this kit, but you can look for 20MM diameter (~3/4") buttons at your local craft store or on Etsy.
For this project you will need a rigid heddle loom, shuttle & bobbins or stick shuttle and a 10 dent reed.
The Orchid Kit includes:
- 1 skein of Italian Silk Noil in Charcoal
- 1 skein of Italian Silk Noil in Sky
- a printable PDF of the pattern
While I haven’t made the pattern yet that utilizes this yarn combo, I’m excited to do so soon. The color combination is marvelous!
I did this pattern using Midnight and Emerald as my Silk Noil colors, and it turned out very well! The yarn is wonderful to work with! The pattern is well done, easy to follow, and fun for me to try a new technique (skipped weft). The fabric is light and airy with a very nice drape. I have to admit that I haven't yet made it into a cowl; I like it as a scarf. But it would be easy to sew on the buttons and make a cowl, if I decide to change it.
I totally enjoyed weaving this project on my rigid heddle loom. The two skeins provide enough for two scarves. This was the first time I'd left space in the weft before. It was magic, watching the weft shift to "fill" the gap left in the fabric when it was washed. WOW!!!! Thank you for making weaving so accessible with the clear well written instructions and lovely yarn to work with.
I wove up the cowl on my antique floor loom, my first experience with weaving silk & leaving gaps in the weft. No warp threads broke, and it went very well. I inserted folded brown paper instead of cardboard (too thick) for the gaps, closed the shed and tapped it in place. I wasn’t sure what to do with the weft end just before each gap so I left them hanging and wove them in with a needle after taking it off the loom. The fabric feels wonderfully drapey and can’t wait to give it to my possible- future -daughter in law! Thanks for a nice weaving experience!
Haven’t put on loom yet as have the tea towels on. Silk feels nice. Can’t wait to start. Service is really nice
