Tweed and Twill Pillowcover Weave-Along Bundle ~ Large Black Raspberry
$ 87.50 USD
We're thrilled to partner with Liz Gipson of Yarnworker for her Winter Weave-Along - read all about why we love Weave-Alongs, and what's so special about this yarn here.
This oversized pillow was designed for serious lounging. The fabric is a 1/3 twill woven with two 5-dent heddles in a hardy wool grown in the USA and spun and dyed by Mountain Meadow Wool Mill. Liz will offer some options for weaving it with a single heddle, which is best used to weave a narrower version of the project. Find all details for the Yarnworker Weavealong here.
The large pillow as written is 21.5 x 21.5 inch pillow with an 8” flap, - for this option you should buy the Large bundle. For those who only have 15-inch looms, you can weave a small 12 x 12 inch version using the Small bundle.
The pattern is not included in this bundle. The educational part of the Yarnworker Weavealong is free, but you'll need to buy a copy of Handwoven Home for the full pattern - Liz's publisher would frown upon her sharing the pattern with everyone. If you're a rigid heddle weaver and don't already have this book by Liz Gipson - believe us, you want it!
Be aware that this yarn has quite a bit of shavings etc. in it from the bedding. I personally don’t like that and won’t use again
I really enjoyed this weave along with Liz. I learned a lot and enjoyed how quickly the project moved along. The yarn was nice and heavy and made this a quick project. I liked the resulting fabric texture . I expected the yarn to be a bit sticky because it’s wool, but giving the warp a quick thrum before weaving solved that. The only negatives were there seemed to be many bits of shavings in the yarn, and one skein was difficult to wind into a ball as it was twisted somehow.
Beautiful yarn! It is going to be a beautiful pillow.
I bought this yarn as a kit for Liz Gipson’s Twill and Tweed pillow cover weave along with the raspberry as the weft yarn. The tarn is wonderfully springy and strong and I was so happy to not encounter a single knot! The color variations in the raspberry are delightful and give the pillow cover added interest. The yarn is a bit scratchy, so would not use it for a garment against bare skin.
