After making two prototypes (first one with double heddle was a disaster) I just made this with Italian Silk (Cloud and Denim) for the warp, Peacock Alpaca for weft. It warped easily, wove beautifully. The silk gives it structure, it it still drapes well. My only major deviation was short fringe (I’m kinda off fringes at the moment). I will make again, some alpaca in the warp.
I'm only half way through the poncho -- just finished the first panel. I decided to warp my rigid heddle loom twice instead of doing a longer warp. With direct warping, longer warps are more difficult for me. The alpaca is fabulous! It doesn't create an overly sticky warp and, as someone else pointed out, it's strong. I've used alpaca before that constantly broke. This stuff is beautiful. Having to get the extra large cones was a little painful, but I'm already thinking about alpaca socks, scarves, hats, and blankets!
I just finished the poncho, and it wet finished beautifully. The alpaca yarn is fabulous to work with, and I would highly recommend the kit and the alpaca, which I will buy again for shawls.
Very easy pattern to follow
So, this is my first "real" project and the instructions were very well written and easy to understand. The yarn is super soft and I can't wait to finish!
