Cotton and Linen Spring Scarf Kit ~ Poppy
$ 72.00 USD
This textured twill scarf by Melissa Hankens is woven with an inviting blend of linen and cotton. Stripes are woven throughout the cloth with a mix with 2/2 twill and point twill patterns, creating subtle shifts in color and texture.
For this project you will need a 4 shaft table or floor loom, shuttle & bobbins, a 12 dent reed and a fringe twister.
The Poppy kit includes 1 cone of Linen Weaving Yarn in Fog, 1 cone of Italian Cotton/Linen Weaving Yarn in Poppy and a printable PDF download of the pattern.
The draft creates a very long scarf...I produced one shy of the prescribed length. I had lots of the linen yarn left over. This happened before when I wove the table runner from Gist in linen and cottolin (hucklace). In fact I got my yarns mixed up. Ah well, it was hard to see the difference. These yarns and the pattern could be a wonderful curtain. I may have to repurchase the yarn for such a project. Hmmm? I’d love to do suitable yarn pairing in yellow. As always I am always delighted to give Gist my business. The staff are enthusiastic and helpful. Thanks!
I'm a beginner weaver and I've been trying all kinds of new things. I really appreciate the GIST weaving PDF patterns (and the free downloads!). I think the directions are clear and easy to follow. I'm not skilled with twill and found this to work. I'm 90% happy with the scarf I made-- the linen is a new feel and look for me. Terry
Can't wait to weave it.
I am about to finish this, and it is a pattern I like a lot. The treading was difficult for the Herringbone borders on the side. And the combination of linen warp and cotton/linen in the weft is easy to work with , I am looking forward to get it off the loom and wash it.
This is the first project I’ve tried on my very old, very big, 4-shaft loom. It is turning out beautifully! I was going to attach a pic but this won’t let me. Oh well. :).
