An pale brown alpaca weaving yarn the color of Saturday mornings: whole wheat toast, milk in your tea, a friend you can always depend on.
A cone of this weaving yarn is exactly what you're looking for when you're looking for alpaca: super soft, cushy, and warm. I source this yarn directly from Arequipa, Peru, where it is made in a mill that has been creating high-quality alpaca yarn for over 90 years. Read all about this yarn and see the available colors here.
3/10 sportweight. 950 yards per 1/2 lb. cone, 20 wpi, recommended sett of 10-16 epi.
Available on 1/2 lb and 2.2 lb cones.
I made a poncho with a silk/alpaca fiber and a band of this. The alpaca weaving yarn stuck pretty badly until I used a pickup stick behind the heddle. It’s gorgeous, though, and worked well in other projects.
I have been an enthusiastic customer of GIST since the beginning. As a weaver I try very hard to buy yarns from small/ethical and organic producers and GIST is a great resource for these products. Their quality is spot-on and customer service is amazing. I'm a big fan! Sam E.
I wove 12 scarves for Holiday gifts, most of them from the 100% Alpaca weaving yarn. It is easy to work with, had minimal shrinkage, and nice colors.
This yarn is perfect for when you want a project to keep you warm but still be lightweight. I had trouble keeping my tie on tight (it's so silky) but other than that is was really easy to weave with. The colors shown on the website are pretty accurate the only difference is in person they have a slight heathering which gives the yarn a nice depth. I wove two blankets and will definitely use this yarn again!
