8/2 Tencel Weaving Yarn ~ Turquoise
$ 17.00 USD
A turquoise Tencel weaving yarn.
Tencel is a cellulose (plant-based) yarn that is wonderfully soft, smooth, shiny and very strong. It is often considered an economical alternative to silk. Lovely for scarves and shawls. Machine washable. Iron to bring out the shine.
3,360 yards per lb. Each 1/2 lb. tube has 1,680 yards. Recommended sett of 15-24 epi.
I had been searching for a bright white Tencel to use with cool silvery gray and for a sharp contrast with black or navy. Many suppliers carry only "natural" white , so I was excited to find this yarn described as a "clear" white. Unfortunately, it has a warmer, creamier tone than I had hoped. I will have to look further for the crisp, bright white I want.
4 stars for the yarn itself minus 1 star for the misleading description of the color.
I previously used this yarn and it was great, but bought a second cone and it literally disintegrated. Both warp and weft in this color only broke every other throw. Ended up costing me not only the cone of Midnite Blue but the perfectly good natural that I paired with it. Ended up buying a cone of navy tencel from another company and starting again
I played yarn chicken and lost!
Gist yarn came to my rescue. I ran out of the beautiful blue tencel mid project and Gist had more in the mail to me faster then i could panic.
I bought the rich black Tencel and am currently weaving with it...and I love it! So soft and yet a beautiful sheen to it... lovely!
The very best compliment I can give GIST is - - I loved the personal attention!! The site has a LIVE HELP CHAT feature - which I used to ask a question. Sarah was on it right away!! I feel like I have a new friend back in MA AND some perfect 8/2 mercerized fiber for a new overshot scarf. Not to mention - - the prices are good, too! Thanks, Sarah
