Weaver's PlayBox # 2 ~ Cotton and Linen

Notify me when this product is available:

The Weaver's PlayBox is a collaboration with Liz Gipson of Yarnworker: a box filled with yarn, project inspiration, and helpful tips created especially for beginner and intermediate rigid heddle weavers.

Our second box is all about sharing our passion for cotton and linen in its many forms, with a focus on weaving towels. This box has been reworked from the previous version to include Beam, our new 3/2 organic cotton.

This Weaver's PlayBox includes:

  • 5 cones of yarn from two of our favorite North American mills: 8/4 cotton from Brassard in Quebec, and Duet, Mallo, and Beam from Meridian in North Carolina.
  • Liz Gipson's beautifully designed 11-page PDF guide packed with project information and techniques that teach you how to make 9 different towels on 3 different warps (see a few of these example towels in the photos). Your box includes enough yarn to choose and make at least 8 towels.
  • You will need a rigid heddle loom with at least a 15" weaving width, and a 10 dent heddle, to complete these projects.

Fibonacci

I am very pleased with the yarns chosen. However, I was really looking forward to weaving something using the Fibonacci
sequence and was somewhat puzzled by the actual instructions for warping. The Fibonacci is based on starting with a number, and adding the next number to get a result: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, etc. The towel shown is nice, but not Fibonacci. Anyway, I am looking forward to using some yarns new to me - and spending the winter hours with some lovely colors and textures.

Love trying new fibre

As with other reviewers, I am from Canada which makes these kits very expensive, but…
I really like this opportunity to try new fibre, some of which I can source in Canada. The tips and hints for weaving were really helpful and informative. . I would advise making larger towels than what was instructed as the towels that came off the loom after washing were not useful for much.

Very Happy

I bought this weaving box on a whim and I am very happy with it. The instructions are very well put together with lots of tips and pictures. The choice of yarn is great and I really like the colours. Everytime I order something from Gist, it gets shipped fast and I have never had a problem. Thank you for putting this all together and making it so easy.
