This is a very nice Silk Noil yarn. I bought it to combine with blue and green Tsumugi silk. I will use some to make an ikat/ kasuri weaving with indigo. The yarn is strong with the characteristic nubby texture.
I’ve only been weaving for a year (RH) but I have fallen in love with all of Gist’s yarn! It it predominantly what I use. I just make up patterns based on what yarn I have, and I recently used this silk for the first time. It is fantastic! It was so easy it weave with and it turned out so very soft! I used it in both warp and weft. I need this in more colors!
I had read (elsewhere) that silk noil was not a good warp. I bought one of the GIST kits with this yarn to use on my Kircher German RHL. Despite the small holes in the Kircher reed, considering abrasion from it, I was amazed that I had no breakage! Understand that this is not ultra soft/ silky even after wet finishing, but made nice manly scarf for my brother.
I haven’t yet used this yarn but I can’t wait to do so. I plan to use it with my handspun to weave scarves. It’s got a nice shimmer to it and will be a perfect accompaniment to a squishy wool yarn.
