I bought several colors of 3/10 alpaca to make a double wide blanket for my husband. It turned out great and wove like a dream. I worried that it would be sticky and catch, but I had no problems whatsoever. Smooth sailing through the sheds, and fulled beautifully.
A lovely soft silky alpaca in rich colors that is easy to work with. It doesn’t tangle, though if you need to correct a weaving error it may have started to felt together, but not to the point of being impossible to un-weave. Very few broken warp threads. I have used it as warp and weft. I have also used it as warp and woven with super wash merino sock yarns of a similar weight. I love this yarn!
She was right, no knots none even broken length on warp. Using alpaca as a warp was risky on hedge, but only one or two thread lost on work and it was probably the heddle’s cause. My daughters love the softness of it,
not only is this yarn strong & economically priced, it's LUCIOUS! i used it for warp on 2 recent scarves on my 7.5 ashford rigid heddle. weft on both of these scarves came from a local suri alpaca breeder.
Have always wanted to try weaving with alpaca and was super pleased with this purchase. I highly recommend Gist as a great resource for all your weaving needs.
